Install Server

On the machine that will server as the SetPower Server download and install the SetPower Server.  After the installation is complete the SetPower Service should automatically be started. The SetPower Server comes with a free 30 day trial license for up to 5 clients.

  • If your server is Windows Server 2008 and the default firewall is configured you will have to enable external access to the SetPower Service (instructions).
  • If you wish to allow users to log into a WebSite to wake their machines to remote access you must also allow external access to the SetPower Service on TCP Port 80.

Install Enterprise Manager

Install the Enterprise Manager on at least one machine. The Enterprise Manager will be used to configure Power Schedules and Rules that will associate computers to those schedules.

Run the Enterprise Manager and configure a Power Schedule

Create a Rule that will include the machines you want your Power Schedule to apply to.

Install Enterprise Client

On your target machines install the SetPower Enterprise Client. When prompted for the name of the SetPower Server enter the name of your server. (alternately see instructions for using a default dns entry) After the install is complete the machine will automatically configure and apply the appropriate power plans. You can verify this in Control Panel->SetPower.
  • The client machine must be in the same Active Directory as the server.
  • You can deploy the client in an automated fashion (group policies/sms/etc) with the folowing msiexec switches
        msiexec.exe /i SetPower.ClientApp.Setup.msi /quiet SERVER="MyServer"
  1. Under Administrative Tools run "Windows Firewall with Advanced Security"
  2. Select Inbound Rules and on the right side of the screen choose "New Rule"
  3. Configure the rule as follows
    Rule Type: Port
    Port: TCP 6975
    Action: Allow the Connection
    Profile: Domain, Private and Public should all be checked
    Name: SetPower Service
If the SetPower client is installed with a blank Server Name it will automatically look for a server named SetPower by querying DNS. If you create a DNS entry in the DNS server that the client computers use for SetPower you do not need to provide any configuration information to the client intall.
Either click New Power Schedule in the menu bar, or edit the existing Power Schedule
Click the swivel to edit specifics about each Power Plan such as the time it should take effect and the various options that SetPower can control.

Either click New Rule in the menu bar, or edit an existing Rule
You can create a rule where specific computers are included by name, or create a rule that matches based on group membership
